Group size and the styles you learn and who leads the room all affect how ready you feel on your first day of teaching. Our programme is built around those three things.
What the training covers
The programme is Yoga Alliance recognised and it gives you a foundation in how yoga works in the body and in practice and in how you teach it. You study philosophy and history to ground your own practice and anatomy and physiology so you can teach with real clarity. Detailed asana breakdowns and teaching methods build the skills to cue clearly and teach safely and hold a room with confidence. We train you in both Hot Hatha and Vinyasa so you can lead a slower heated class as well as a flowing one. Along the way you develop your own teaching voice.
How the course runs
Our 200-hour yoga teacher training opens with a five-day studio immersion and continues with six training weekends at our Borough studio. Most of the training falls on weekends and one Friday evening session runs online and gets recorded.
Small groups and who teaches
We cap each cohort at 12 so there’s time for individual feedback and proper conversations. In a group that size you won’t disappear into a room of thirty. Janice Wright leads the training as our Head of Yoga and she works closely with the instructors already on the studio schedule. She still teaches in the studio herself so you learn from someone who knows what a working class asks of a teacher.
Who it suits
The training is for people who already have a relationship with yoga and feel ready for the next step. You may have practised for years and want to understand what you’re doing instead of just following along. You may be curious about teaching without knowing where it could lead. You don’t need to be perfect or have every answer. Consistent practice and a real wish to learn is enough.
After you graduate
Regular practice teaching and feedback give you hands-on experience during the course. Once you finish we keep supporting people who want to teach with ongoing guidance and chances to gain experience through studio cover where appropriate. Some graduates start teaching professionally and others carry the practice into their own lives and we support both routes. Past graduates describe feeling supported and well educated and many mention the cohort and the teachers.
How to apply
You can apply for the course online and we’re happy to hear about your practice so far and what’s bringing you to teacher training now.
Choosing when to start
Teacher training works best when you arrive with a steady practice and some curiosity about teaching. Many people spend a few months in our studios first to get a feel for the teachers and the room. Our hot yoga classes show you how the trainers cue and sequence and hold a space and that helps you judge whether the style suits you.
