Borough has no shortage of places to train. Big chains sit next to small studios and boutique brands so the choice mostly comes down to what kind of workout you want to walk into at 7am or 9pm. Some people want rows of machines and others want a coach who knows their name.

What we built at Borough

Our Borough studio sits right on Borough High Street and it was our first central London site. We set it up as an escape from city pressure so the classes lean on heat and strength and recovery instead of treadmills and weight racks. You can come for a sweat or a reset and plenty of members end up doing both in the same week.

The classes

Hot yoga is what most people know us for. It combines mindful stretching with a warm room and we supply everything you need so you only have to bring clothes you don’t mind sweating in. Hot Pilates uses resistance to strengthen and tone the body with a lot of attention on alignment and focus. Barre is inspired by classical ballet and works the small muscle groups to build core strength and overall tone without hammering your joints. You don’t need any dance experience for it.

Arm Balances is a skills class where each month centres on one featured arm balance or inversion so you build the strength and foundations to support it over time. Lift is a pure weights class with no cardio and a limited capacity so your coach can correct your form and help you find the right intensity. Run Club sets off from the studio for instructor-led group runs and every pace is welcome.

If any of this is new to you our yoga for beginners guide and our barre for beginners guide explain what happens in a first class and what to wear before you walk in.

A note on the heat

Our hot classes aren’t suitable for anyone who is pregnant or has a cardiovascular or blood pressure or blood sugar condition. If that sounds like you then have a chat with us before booking anything.

Getting here and fitting it in

The studio is at 4 Marshalsea Road and it’s about five minutes from London Bridge so it works as a stop before work or at lunch or on the way home. We open from early morning to late evening and that includes weekends. There’s a locker room with showers and a changing area so you can train and head straight back to your day.

Who trains here

All levels are welcome and the coaches adapt the moves to suit you whether it’s your first week of exercise or your tenth year of training. The room tends to be friendly and a lot of members say classes have turned into a way to meet people as much as a workout. Our motto sums it up well enough and it’s the same one we’ve used for years: come for the workout and stay for the people.

Memberships and class packs

You can start with an intro offer for new clients or buy a class card or move to a membership once you know how often you’ll train. Everything sits on our class and membership page and the options cover all three of our studios across Crouch End and Borough. A good way to test the fit is to book two different classes in your first week such as a hot yoga session and a barre session and see which one you’d happily do again.
